CO-MODERATOR Starting at minute 30:58 and at 1:58:53
Stephen Wright, FRCN, MBE Starting out with the curse-blessing of a dysfunctional family, Stephen Wright emerged from his Manchester working class background to grow his hair long and wander around Europe like a lot of his generation did in the 1960’s.
|
He then “drifted into nursing” and by conventional measures made a success of it, eventually becoming the first consultant nurse in the UK National Health Service in 1986. He got into conference speaking and course-leading internationally, “shuffled around” in academia, made TV programmes, wrote lots of books and research papers about nursing, and advised governments, the World Health Organization and the Royal College of Nursing. But, in the 1990s, he turned to a reawakening of the mysticism — long suppressed since childhood — to explore spirituality as it related to himself, health care and as service to others. He is a member of the Iona Community and his latest work focuses on the life of Kentigern/Mungo and offers a related pilgrimage route around the Northern Fells of Cumbria. Other of his books have explored spirituality and health, pilgrimage, poetry, and spiritual guidance. He continues as a Fellow and visiting Professor at the University of Cumbria and lives in the English Lake District, working as Course Director for the Kentigern School and as a Trustee and Spiritual Director for the Sacred Space Foundation where he serves the well-being of nurses in retreat from the UK’s National Health Service.

This is Greg's message to everyone:
This nursing opportunity has given me a lot to take... and I'm very happy in what I am doing. In the future I would like to be involved in volunteer efforts for nursing advocacy and the biggest advocacy for nursing care to have the best possible outcomes. After this pandemic, the nurses have not been looked after for their physical and mental health. It's going to be a very big problem for the patients. For this Nurses' Voices Speaker Series it is really good for me to have a

foundation for what the nurses are advocating and I would like to advocate for the same thing in the future.
