Commemorating The 2020 International Nurses' Week!

Picture
Since 1965, the International Council of Nurses (ICN)  has celebrated May 12th—the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth—as International Nurses Day—to mark the contributions nurses make to society. This year's theme Nurses: A Voice to Lead—Nursing the World to Health is keenly relevant. The courageous work of nurses, midwives and other healthcare professionals—in the face of the global COVID-19 crisis—truly honours the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. She would be so proud!
Above, London celebrates Florence Nightingale's 200th Birthday and today's nurses with a light show on the face of Britain’s iconic Parliament House—across the River Thames from Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital—originally designed by Nightingale—and the Florence Nightingale Museum. This image is from highlighted coverage of the 2020 International Nurses’ Day by the website of Big World Tale.
Global Praise & Commendation
Organizations around the world are commemorating the brave and noble work that all nurses do. To the right, members of the Royal Family share their appreciation with nurses from across the Commonwealth. At the beginning, the Queen is greeted by Kathleen McCourt, President of the Commonwealth Nurses & Midwives Federation representing 54 nations across the world.

Also featured here are three videos bringing praise and commendation from organizations representing nurses at global levels. The World Health Organization designated 2020 as the 'Year of the Nurse & the Midwife'—a rare commendation in the 72-year history of WHO.

"Nurses are a unique kind. They have this insatiable need to care for others, which is both their biggest strength and fatal flaw."

Celebrating 'Day of Care' in Germany
”Nursing is an art and—if it is to be    an art—it requires as exclusive a devotion—as hard a preparation—as any painter's or sculptor's work. For what is the having to do with dead canvas or cold marble—compared with having to do with the living body—the temple of God's spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts. I had almost said, the finest of the Fine Arts.”
