POONAM SHARMA, MN, RN
NIGH Advisory Council
Picture
Poonam Sharma is a Canadian Public Health Nurse who currently serves as Manager for Communicable Diseases for the Peel Public Health Region of the Ontario and as the Ontario Board Representative of the Community Health Nurses of Canada.  She has been involved globally with the NIGH team—to advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)—since 2008. Poonam’s nursing passion is rooted in the social determinants of health in the community. She has a diverse background in public health with experience in family health,-maternal health, newborn care, communicable diseases, and oral health. Poonam believes that, as global citizens, nurses are in a strategic position to maintain, promote and protect the health of populations both now and the future. She also currently serves as the Peel Chapter President for the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario.
