Prior to assuming his current positions, Mr. Shibuya has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Save the Children Japan for seven years. Previously, he has worked in a number of international organizations, including, Senior Advisor to the Executive Director of UNICEF, Special Advisor at the Earth Summit in 1992, and—in his earlier career with the United Nations—his appointments have included, serving as the Director of the UN Information Center and Head of the New York Office of the UN University. In between his tenures at the United Nations, he helped establish the US-Japan Foundation where he was the first Executive Director, and also as the CEO of Dentsu Burson-Marsteller, a joint venture of the world’s leading communications agencies.

In the past, Mr. Shibuya's public services have included serving on the boards of World Learning, Helen Keller International, Save the Children, the Earth Council, UN Secretary-General’s advisory committee on communications and the advisory board on Private Public Partnerships of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), among others, as well as Special Adviser to the Nippon Foundation Asia-Pacific Development Center for Disability (APCD).
Throughout these formative years, Mr. Shibuya has been a trusted friend, confidant and informal advisor to NIGH's Core Team. We are privileged to welcome him to serve on NIGH’s official Advisory Council.
