Dr. Christina Jackson is an award-winning nursing educator, counselor, and activist for Holistic & Integrative Health modalities and practices. She has served as an informal advisor to the International Co-Directors of the Nightingale Initiative for Global Health, since NIGH’s founding in the early 2000s. Now, we are pleased to welcome her to NIGH’s Advisory Council where she served as one of the featured speakers during the Virtual Launch of NIGH’s ‘Nurses’ Voices Grassroots to Global’ campaign.
Dr. Jackson received both her BSN and MSN— with a Nurse Practitioner specialty—from the University of Pennsylvania. Her PhD focused on Interdisciplinary Studies in Holistic & Integrative Health-Care, from the Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio.She currently serves as the Nurse Consultant for Chester County Department of Children, Youth and Families, and has served on the school nurse team at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf for several decades.
She is also Professor Emerita at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania where she was the Holistic Curriculum Coordinator for the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Here, she also served as Moderator of the Faculty Senate for two separate terms and was a recipient of the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award.
Dr. Jackson practices, teaches, and uses many integrative healing strategies for self-care and clinical patient care. She has been teaching mindfulness practices—for the past three decades—in various academic and fitness settings. She has been teaching fitness continuously for 40 years and holds certifications in Yoga, Pilates, Balletone and Active Aging. She also holds certifications in Hypnosis, Healing Touch, and has completed training in the areas of mindfulness, mental health counseling, trauma, and addictions therapies. She is also an Edmond J Safra Nurse Scholar at Parkinson’s Foundation.
She has published extensively and is an award-winning author in the field of Holistic Nursing and served as the Associate Editor of the journal Holistic Nursing Practice: The Science of Health and Healing—where she still serves on the Editorial Board. Dr. Jackson was honored to receive the 2011 Holistic Nurse of the Year Award from the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA).
