As a professional communicator, Benoît Charlebois has built an exceptionally diversified and international career spanning over 30 years in private, public, governmental and non-governmental organizations—in over seven countries—in the fields of education and public engagement, telecommunications, humanitarian and international development.
Benoît has served as the Director of Alumni Relations & Community Engagement at the Lester B. Pearson United World College of the Pacific (since 2012). He has held senior management and strategic corporate communications positions with Telus and Bell Canada, as well as the Canadian International Development Agency, the Canadian Red Cross, the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, Canada World Youth and Initiatives of Change Canada. Previously, he had held start-up program management, customer operations and marketing management positions in several overseas telecom start-ups with Telesystem International Wireless—successfully launching cellular telephony operations in Romania, Brazil, France and UK. Earlier in his career, Benoît worked as Communications Coordinator with United World Colleges International in the UK and Italy—as well as in the field of development support communications with Club 2/3-Oxfam Quebec in Montreal and with Canadian University Services Overseas— as an overseas cooperant in Colombia. Benoît is fluent in French, Spanish and English and has conversational capacity in the Portuguese and Italian languages. For more than three decades, he has been a close friend and confidant of NIGH’s co-founders and an appreciative advisor to NIGH since our beginning years.
