Barbara 'Barbie' Dossey
International Co-Director
Dr. Barbara Dossey, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, HWNC-BC, HSGAHN, FAAN, has international recognition as a pioneer in the holistic nursing and nurse coaching movements. She is a Florence Nightingale scholar, nurse theorist, and national and international speaker and teacher on the role of integrative nurse coaching in the emerging integrative healthcare paradigm. She is Co-Founder of the International Nurse Coach Association and the Integrative Nurse Coach Academy (INCA)—International Co-Director and Board Member of NIGH—and Director of Holistic Nursing Consultants in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
With NIGH and the Nightingale Declaration Campaign (NDC), Dr. Dossey works to strengthen individual commitment toward achieving a healthy world as a priority objective for action by ordinary citizens, civil society organizations and governments at the local and national level. Along with her NIGH members, she developed the 2010 International Year of the Nurse. Since 2016, NIGH's focus has been to advocate for the achievement of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that all UN Members of States unanimously approved as moving towards the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
To add to her many awards and accolades, Dr. Dossey has recently been named an 'Honorary Scholar of the Global Academy of Holistic Nursing' for her integration of the Holistic Nursing knowledge, skills and values needed to affect a sense of wellbeing in individuals, groups and communities, as well as to the social justice needed to eradicate health disparities and promote safe and healthy communities.
