United Nations Briefing on the Rights of Disabled Persons Video excerpted from the United Nations Channel UN Web TV. Used with permission. Representing the Nightingale Initiative for Global Health (NIGH), Yasmin Atwal attended the 19th Session of the Conference of States Parties (COSP) to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from June 8 to 11, 2026. Her participation reflected her growing leadership in disability rights, accessibility, legal literacy, and inclusive education. As a young advocate, university student, Tedx speaker, author, Certified Human Rights Consultant, and Certified Disability Rights and Accessibility Consultant, Yasmin brought an important youth perspective to global conversations on disability inclusion and human rights.
Her advocacy is rooted in her work to develop the National Disability Inclusion Toolkit, an 81-page resource designed to help schools implement practical, legally informed, and inclusive accessibility practices. Through this initiative, Yasmin has worked to support educators, students, families, and communities in understanding disability rights and creating safer, more accessible learning environments. She shared that “representing NIGH was especially meaningful because her work connects disability inclusion with broader global health, education, and human rights priorities. Her work at COSP 19 represents an important milestone in her journey as a young Canadian changemaker dedicated to building more inclusive schools, communities, and systems. She was honored to represent the Nightingale Initiative for Global Health.”
