Lalezar Tuner, BSN, RN
Lalezar 'Lale' Tüner is a 4th year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) student at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. As a newcomer to Canada, Lale decided to pursue a nursing degree, as she was introduced to the role of nurses and advanced nursing education in improving patient care and impacting global health. She has been heavily involved in community service, research, and various extracurricular activities and the degree of her involvement has intensified throughout her academic journey. Lale strives to be an assertive leader and utilizes the trust she has been given to empower communities, improve patient care, and inspire nursing students to be confident leaders.
Currently, Lale serves as the President of Nursing Students of Ontario, an interest group within the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario. Through her role, she engages in advocacy and political action for healthy public policies and the advancement of nursing education. Nursing Simulation Centre Lab Director, where she helps organizing simulation lab facilitation sessions with other volunteer student leaders to reinforce their clinical decision-making and psychomotor skills. Currently, Lale has a strong interest in oncology and works alongside her prominent York University professors to conduct oncology research.
Having grown up in Turkey with a family of healthcare workers, Lale understands that there is always room for improvement for nurses’ role in achieving sustainable healthy environments. Nurses are at the center of achieving this goal, as they are a part of every aspect of healthcare delivery around the world.
Through the Nightingale Initiative for Global Health (NIGH), Lale hopes to contribute to this cause and encourage student leaders to do the same, for we have only one planet. Lale is now serving as NIGH's Turkish Advisor collaborating to establish the Turkish version of the Nightingale Declaration for A Healthy World.
